CRETE AQUARIUM

As you are on the seabed without a mask, fins and snorkel. You see the cliffs of Matala, the bottom of Vai and tropical species that grow in the depths of the Mediterranean and Red Sea.
Sharks are the attractions but not the leading actors. Besides that, you will see a scenery of the Mediterranean, of the Greek sea bed and the tropical environment, 600 meters in length, where you will come face to face with 2,500 marine species (from tiny seahorses to the fat blackfish), distributed to about 200 species.
The fishes are housed in 32 tanks with a total capacity of 1,600,000 liters in the largest aquarium in the country and one of the largest in the Mediterranean.

Crete Aquarium The Aquarium of Crete (Cretaquarium) is in a short distance from the city center of Heraklion in the north of the county road, at the former American base at Gournes of Heraklion.
It has easy access by the most tourist areas like Chersonissos, Malia, etc.
The building of the aquarium is located approximately 100m from an extensive sandy beach ideal for swimming.
