Tourist Guide of Lipsi

Lipsi is the largest of a cluster of islands and islets of great environmental concern in Northern Dodecanese. Around Lipsi there are 24 islets and rocks that form an impressive polynesia. This is a quiet island that is still away from the major tourist flow.

The island has a natural harbor suitable for parking of private boats and there is a little modern and fully equipped marine. Every summer are hosted selective lovers of the open sea who find on this island the modern comfort and the verses, Aegean thrills that they are seeking.

The options for swimming, diving or fishing are endless. Experience the luxury of a dive in the crystal clear waters of your own, private beach, in coves and hidden caves, accessible on foot or by small boats. Also, there are the nearby uninhabited islets, with shelters of rare birds: most beautiful of all is the Aegean-Gull, the rarest seabird of Greece, white, with narrow gray wings, black on their edge and dark red beak.

For your accommodation in Lipsi there are available to you traditional and modern apartments, studios and villas.

The whole island is ideal for walking, since it is not more than 45 minutes to walk from the one end to the other. The paved mountainous path of Analipsi, one km in length, it connects two churches and there are many other natural paths - routes that lead to historic churches on the mountains with a view to the Asian coast.

The great festival of Virgin Mary of Charos on August 22 begins with the litany of the picture of Virgin Mary. The ceremony becomes a genuine island festival with aromatic bread and local meat cooked in oven, live traditional music, dance and drinks.

Because of its inclusion in Byzantine Monastic state of Patmos, the religious monuments dominate the rich cultural heritage of Lipsi. The monks of Patmos built an idyllic area in the Church of the Virgin of Charos of interesting architecture, great paintings and the unique image of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ not as an infant, but on the Cross of suffering - a rare moment of Orthodox hand-painting icons. Also important are the early Christian findings, such as the royal church in Kouselio.

The island has very nice beaches. The closest to the village are the Lientou and Kira Vasilena. South of the harbor is the bay of Katsadia, while other beaches are the Chochlakoura, the Monodendri, the Platis Gialos, Tourkomnima, Xirokambos and the Kisaria.

If you visit Lipsi, it is worth doing:
- An excursion to neighboring islands with organized day trips, especially to Makronisi with the amazing specificity of the rocks and of the cave.
- Walking along the paths crossing the island, leading the walker lover in idyllic locations.
- To go to the wine feast on August 10, and taste the sweet black wine of the excellent local production.
