Tourist Guide of Thesprotia

The county is full of wetlands with rich flora and fauna: Acheron Gorge, delta Kalama, State Kalodikeiou, Mourgkana mountains, Paramithia and Souli. Byzantine monuments, archaeological sites, monasteries, churches, historical Souli, traditional villages complete the picture of the county.
A large natural harbor with significant tourism and commercial traffic is the city of Igoumenitsa which is gateway to Greece from Western Europe. Visit the forest above the town, the village Kastri, Drepano -an enchanting area, with a beach and lagoon, passing migratory birds, the peninsula of Lygia, the valuable wetland area of the old delta of Kalama and Prasoudi island. You can swim in Drepano, Makrigiali and Prasoudi.
Significant tourism has the picturesque coastal village of Arilla. In the agricultural village Gardiki you can visit the Acropolis of St. Donatos and burial Iroo of the ellenistic period in Marmara.
Next to the river Acheron, the running water and trees of Gliki will impress you. Visit the bridge of the river Acheron, the fountains of the Acheron and it's passages and the Skala of Tzavelaina.
Karavostasi has a beautiful sandy beach which is a holiday settlement. You can visit the irrigation dam of Kalama and the stone bridge in the village Gkoumanis in the village Kestrin and the cobbled road of the village Lagkari in the village Kokkinolithari, the water mills in the village of Daphne, the Vavouri village near Lia, the Banou fountain and many other places.
Another commercial and administrative center is the town of Paramithia. Among other spots visit the castle of Eleftherohori, Elatodasos in Elataria and the pond Prontani near the village Ambelia.
You will enjoy the journey from Elea to Pigadoulia. In Plakoti there is the gorge of Kalama River, a protected area of exceptional beauty with remarkable flora and fauna.
Significant tourism presents the seaside village of Plataria. In the village Prodromi there is a park of ostrich farming.
In the seaside village of Sagiada visit the Old Sagiada, the abandoned traditional village Liopsi, the delta of Kalama which is a protected wetland natural beauty and island Agioleni.
The historic village of Souli is situated in an impressive landscape. In the area you can admire the traditional wells, the church of Agios Donatos, the bridge of the river Tsagkariotikou, Castle Kiafas, the quaint villages of Tsagari, Avlotopos, Koukouli and Frosini as well as the churches of St. Demetrius in Tsagari and Aghias Kiriakis in Avlotopo.
Sivota is also a tourist center. You can visit the village of Vrachona. From Sivota you can visit the islands Aghios Nikolaos, Mavro Oros, Megalo Mourtemeno and Mikro Mourtemeno.
It is worth visiting Nerotrivi, the tap "Rigo" and the tree that under it, according to the tradition, Kosmas Aitolos taught. The bridge Gkrikas near the village Ampelones is also an interesting spot.
In the village Filiates is located a forest with pines and cypresses, the Giromeri Monastery and the beautiful villages Plesio and Sideri and also the stonemade bridge of the river Kalpakiotikos near the village Elea.
In Chrysavgi with the running waters and the trees you can visit the archaeological site of Elea and the Cave of Aghios Arsenios.

If you visit Thesprotia you should buy raki, cheese and sausages and try lachanopita, lamb and kontosouvli.
