View from Chorto

Chorto is waiting for you in its green shore, justifying its name, which in Latin version (Chortus) means "garden". The history of this port, as shown by the archaeological findings, it is very old, since somewhere here is located the ancient city of Spalathra.
Faint samples of the old acme of the area, are the traces of a temple on the pavement of the road, the remains of a larger temple of Agios Nikolaos, on the top of the upper hill, where also appears to had been present there a fortress in the past, which gave to hill its name, "Chortokastro".

In the interwar period, the settlement had a great flourish since it became a transit point for the olives of south Pelion, which were transferred by boats. Then, many beautiful neoclassical houses were built by the local traders. Today, Chorto is very popular among tourists, offering many accommodations, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Rich program of cultural events is organized in the municipality, in association with the Foundation of Angelini, clubs and groups of the region. Festivals, conferences, theatre seminars, music, dance, are some of our suggestions for your holidays in Argalasti.
